Did you know you can make crispy, delicious air fryer bacon wrapped onion rings at home? This easy recipe teaches you how to wrap onions in bacon for a perfect appetizer or side. The fun part is that it’s easy to make, requires just two main ingredients and gets ready in less than 15 mins
Ingredients
- 1 lb bacon
- 2 large onions
- 2 teaspoons red pepper flakes
- ¼ cup maple syrup (I used a sugar free version)
Instructions
Onions:
- Cut off both ends of the onions and peel off the skin. Alternatively, some people prefer to slice the onions before removing the skin.
- Slice onions into ½ to ¾ inch thick rings, separating the rings. It’s okay if 2 thinner rings stick together.
Wrapping and Cooking
- Wrap each onion ring with a slice of bacon, overlapping the bacon slightly. For large rings, use 2 bacon slices. For medium rings, use approximately 1 ½ bacon slices. Toothpicks can secure the bacon if needed.
- Brush the bacon-wrapped rings lightly with maple syrup and pepper flakes (optional).
- Place the wrapped onion rings in the air fryer basket and cook at 390°F for 10 minutes, flipping halfway through. Add 2-3 minutes more if the bacon isn’t crisp enough.
