Ingredients
For the Caramelized Onion Rings:
2 large onions, peeled and sliced into thick rings (about 1-inch slices)
1 tbsp olive oil
1 tbsp balsamic vinegar
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp black pepper
1/2 tsp sugar (to help caramelize)
Optional: 1 tbsp butter (for extra richness)
For the Burger:
2 beef burger patties (about 4 oz each)
Salt & black pepper to taste
2 slices cheddar cheese
2 tbsp mayonnaise or burger sauce (optional)
1–2 leaves lettuce
1 tomato, sliced
Pickles or any other favorite toppings
Instructions
Caramelize the Onions:
Preheat the air fryer to 360°F (182°C).
In a bowl, toss the onion rings with olive oil, balsamic vinegar, salt, pepper, and sugar.
Arrange onion rings in a single layer in the air fryer basket. You may need to cook them in batches depending on size.
Air fry for 10–12 minutes, flipping halfway, until golden and caramelized.
Optional: Melt butter in a pan, add caramelized onions, and cook for another 2 minutes for extra flavor. Set aside.
Cook the Burger Patties:
While onions cook, season the beef patties with salt and pepper.
After caramelizing the onions, increase the air fryer temperature to 375°F (190°C).
Place burger patties in the air fryer basket and cook for 8–10 minutes (for medium), flipping halfway through.
Add a slice of cheddar cheese on top of each patty in the last 1–2 minutes of cooking, allowing it to melt.
Assemble the Burger:
To assemble, place a caramelized onion ring on the bottom, followed by the cheesy burger patty.
Add lettuce, tomato, pickles, and any additional toppings.
Top with another caramelized onion ring to complete the “bun.”
Serve:
Serve immediately with your favorite side (fries, salad, etc.), and enjoy the deliciousness of a burger with onion rings!
Tips & Tricks
For the best onion rings: Cut onions into thick rings so they stay intact during air frying.
Make it spicy: Add a spicy sauce or jalapeños to amp up the heat.
For a lighter version: Use turkey or chicken patties and serve with a light mayo or Greek yogurt-based sauce.
Extra crispy: If you prefer extra-crispy onion rings, lightly coat them in flour or panko breadcrumbs before air frying.
Serving Suggestions
Serve with air fryer sweet potato fries or a green salad for a healthier twist.
Pair with a refreshing citrus slaw to balance the rich, savory flavors.
