Air Fryer Chicken Wings (Crispy & Juicy)
Introduction
Chicken wings in the air fryer are super crispy on the outside and tender inside, all without deep frying. Whether you’re keeping it classic with salt and pepper, tossing them in buffalo, BBQ, or garlic parmesan, this method gives perfect results every time.
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 25–30 minutes
Total Time: 35–40 minutes
Servings: 2–4 (depending on wing size)
Ingredients
Base Wings:
2 lbs chicken wings (drumettes and flats), patted dry
1 tbsp baking powder (NOT baking soda) – for crispiness
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp black pepper
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp paprika (optional for color)
Cooking spray or a small amount of oil
Optional Sauce (Classic Buffalo):
1/4 cup hot sauce (like Frank’s RedHot)
2 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
1/2 tsp garlic powder
Instructions
Prep the Wings
Pat wings very dry with paper towels (this helps crisp them).
In a large bowl, toss wings with baking powder, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and paprika until evenly coated.
Air Fry the Wings
Preheat air fryer to 380°F (193°C) for 3–5 minutes.
Lightly spray air fryer basket with oil.
Place wings in a single layer, not touching (cook in batches if needed).
Air fry for 25–30 minutes, flipping halfway, until golden and crispy.
Optional: Increase temp to 400°F (204°C) for the last 2–3 minutes for extra crunch.
Toss in Sauce (Optional)
While wings are hot, toss in melted butter and hot sauce mixture if using.
Serve immediately with dipping sauce of choice.
Flavor Variations
Garlic Parmesan: Toss in melted butter, minced garlic, and grated Parmesan.
Honey BBQ: Mix equal parts BBQ sauce and honey, heat and coat wings.
Asian Sticky Wings: Toss in soy sauce, honey, ginger, garlic, and a touch of chili.
Tips for Success
Dry wings = crispier skin. Moisture is the enemy of crunch!
Use baking powder (aluminum-free) to help crisp the skin — it raises the pH.
Don’t overcrowd the basket. Airflow is key for crispiness.
Reheat leftovers in the air fryer for 5 minutes at 375°F.
