Ingredients (Makes 4 burgers)
For the burger patties:
1 lb ground beef (80/20 for juicier patties)
½ teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon black pepper
½ teaspoon garlic powder
½ teaspoon onion powder
½ teaspoon smoked paprika (optional, for extra flavor)
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
For assembly:
8 large butter lettuce leaves (or iceberg/romaine)
4 slices cheddar cheese (optional)
1 small tomato, sliced
½ red onion, thinly sliced
4 pickle slices
4 tablespoons mayonnaise or preferred burger sauce
Instructions
Prepare the Burger Patties
In a mixing bowl, combine ground beef, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, Worcestershire sauce, and Dijon mustard.
Gently mix until just combined. Overmixing can make the patties tough.
Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape them into burger patties about ½ inch thick. Make a slight indentation in the center of each patty to prevent puffing during cooking.
Preheat the Air Fryer
Set your air fryer to 375°F (190°C) and allow it to preheat for 3 minutes.
Cook the Patties
Lightly spray the air fryer basket with oil to prevent sticking.
Place the burger patties in the air fryer basket in a single layer. Avoid overcrowding.
Air fry at 375°F (190°C) for 8-10 minutes, flipping halfway through.
For medium burgers: Cook for about 8 minutes.
For well-done burgers: Cook for about 10-12 minutes.
If adding cheese, place a slice on each patty during the last 1-2 minutes of cooking to allow it to melt.
Assemble the Lettuce Wrap Burgers
Lay two large lettuce leaves overlapping slightly to create a sturdy base.
Spread a little mayonnaise or burger sauce on the lettuce.
Place the air-fried burger patty on top.
Add a slice of tomato, onion rings, and pickles.
Carefully fold the lettuce around the burger, tucking in the sides to secure the fillings.
Wrap in parchment paper for easier handling if desired.
