These wings are great as a weeknight supper or as a terrific game day snack any day of the week! You do not own an air fryer. Not an issue. The wings can alternatively be baked or grilled.

Ingredients:

  1. 2 lbs chicken wings, split at joints, tips discarded
  2. 1/4 cup soy sauce
  3. 2 tablespoons olive oil
  4. 2 tablespoons honey
  5. 2 cloves garlic, minced
  6. 1 teaspoon ginger, grated
  7. 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  8. 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  9. 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  10. 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (adjust to taste)
  11. Fresh cilantro or green onions for garnish (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Marinate the Chicken Wings:In a bowl, whisk together soy sauce, olive oil, honey, minced garlic, grated ginger, smoked paprika, black pepper, onion powder, and cayenne pepper. This creates a flavourful marinade.
  2. Place the chicken wings in a large zip-top bag or a shallow dish and pour the marinade over them. Ensure all wings are well-coated. Seal the bag or cover the dish and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to marinate. For a richer flavor, you can marinate them for up to 24 hours.
  3. 1. Preheat the Air Fryer:Preheat your air fryer to 400°F (200°C) for about 5 minutes.
  4.  Air Fry the Chicken Wings:**Remove the marinated chicken wings from the refrigerator and let them come to room temperature for a few minutes.
Place the wings in the air fryer basket in a single layer, making sure they are not overcrowded.
  5. Cook for 20-25 minutes, flipping the wings halfway through the cooking time. Cooking times may vary, so check for doneness. The wings should be golden brown and crispy.
  6. Serve Once the wings are cooked, transfer them to a serving plate.
  7. Garnish with fresh cilantro or green onions if desired.
  8. Enjoy Serve the air-fried marinated chicken wings hot, and enjoy with your favorite dipping sauce!

Tips & Q/A

  • Is it possible to utilise frozen wings? In theory, sure. No, you shouldn’t. One advantage of using an air fryer is that you can cook chicken straight out of the freezer, though I personally don’t think that’s a good idea when marinating it. You won’t get the same flavour as you would with defrosted chicken since marinades don’t adhere well to frozen wings. If you decide to use frozen chicken in the recipe, increase the cooking time by five to seven minutes.
  • How long should you marinate the chicken? Marinate the chicken between 30 minutes to 24 hours. Anything longer then 24 hours, the meat will start to break down.
  • How do you store leftovers? Leftover marinated chicken should be stored in the refrigerator in an airtight container. Leftover will keep for up to 4 days when stored properly.
  • Extra crispy wings? I like to cook air fryer chicken wings to the point of them being very crispy. I’ll admit I probably like them crisper than most people. To achieve your desired amount of crisp, you’ll need to turn up the degrees on the air fryer the last few minutes of cooking. How long you crisp your wings is up to you; in part, it will depend on your air fryer and how well it heats. I suggest you check on them every few minutes the first time you make this recipe.
