Air Fryer Monte Cristo Sandwich

Description

An Air Fryer Monte Cristo Sandwich is one of my favorite air fryer sandwiches; my kids went crazy for them at Disneyland. Since they are home these days, I’m always looking for great and easy lunch ideas; I came up with this version, absolutely delicious.

Ingredients

  • 12 slices honey wheat bread
  • 6 slices turkey breast
  • 6 slices Swiss cheese
  • 6 slices sliced ham
  • 4 slices American cheese
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg

Serve With: Powdered Sugar and Raspberry Preserves

Instructions

  • Start by assembling the sandwich, add one slice of turkey, Swiss Cheese, Ham, and American cheese to the bottom layer of bread. Add a top slice, and press together.
  • Break the egg and milk, salt, and nutmeg mix well in one bowl. Spray your air fryer basket with olive oil. Preheat your air fryer to 380 degrees F for 5 minutes. Dip your sandwiches into the batter, and coat, leaving them in about 30 seconds.
  • Set your sandwiches into the air fryer and set the time for 8 minutes, flipping halfway.
  • Plate, serve, and enjoy!

Equipment

  • Air Fryer
  • Cooking Spray
  • Parchment Paper, or Aluminum Foil Optional

Reheating:

  1. Air Fryer:
    • Preheat the air fryer to 350°F (175°C).
    • Place the sandwich in the air fryer basket and heat for 3-5 minutes or until warmed through and crispy on the outside.
  2. Oven:
    • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
    • Place the sandwich on a baking sheet and warm for about 10 minutes or until heated through.

Note: It’s best to reheat using methods that restore the sandwich’s crispness. Microwaving is not recommended, as it can make the sandwich soggy.

Freezing:

  1. Freezing Prepared Sandwiches:
    • Let the cooked sandwiches cool completely.
    • Wrap each sandwich tightly in aluminum foil or plastic wrap.
    • Place wrapped sandwiches in a zip-top freezer bag, removing as much air as possible.
    • Label the bag with the date and contents. Freeze for up to 1 month.
  2. Reheating from Frozen:
    • You can reheat the sandwich directly from the freezer. Use the air fryer or oven method mentioned above, but extend the reheating time by a few minutes.

By following these storage, freezing, and reheating guidelines, you can enjoy your Air Fryer Monte Cristo Sandwiches at a later time, ensuring they remain as delectable as when first made. Perfect for meal planning or enjoying leftovers!
