Instructions

  • Slice onions and keep them in a mixing bowl. Add a tsp salt and gently mix it with onion slices (preferably by hand). Let it sit for 10 minutes to release the moisture.
  • After 10 minutes, check that the onions have released some moisture. Don’t remove that.
  • Add chickpea flour, rice flour, and spices to the bowl. Drizzle 1 tsp olive oil and mix thoroughly.
  • Add water gradually. It may take 4 – 5 tbsp water to make the batter of the right consistency. A too-thin consistency won’t hold shape in the air fryer. The onion mixture should be thick enough.
  • Preheat the air fryer to 400 F for 3 – 4 minutes. Grease the basket or use a silicon mat for this recipe to avoid sticking of the fritters.
  • Take a spoonful of mixture and place it in the air fryer. Arrange them in a single layer.
  • Spray or brush them with oil.
  • Air fry them for 10 minutes at 350 F or 175 C. Then, increase the temperature to 400 F (200 C) and air fry for 5 – 6 minutes more.
  • Flip them halfway through and spray a little oil on them.
  • Remove when the fritters turn crispy and golden.
  • Serve hot with cilantro dip or any of your favorite dip.
