Air Fryer Potato Fritters
Introduction
Potato fritters are a comforting snack made from grated potatoes, spices, and herbs, shaped into small patties and cooked until golden brown. Traditionally, they’re deep-fried, but using an air fryer gives them a healthier twist while keeping that crispy outside and soft, fluffy inside. These fritters make an excellent appetizer, side dish, or tea-time snack, and they pair perfectly with sour cream, chutney, or ketchup. Best of all, they require minimal oil while delivering maximum crunch.
Prep Time: 15 minutes
Cook Time: 15–18 minutes
Total Time: 30–35 minutes
Ingredients (Makes about 10–12 fritters)
3 medium potatoes (about 1 lb), peeled and grated
1 small onion, finely chopped (optional)
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 tbsp fresh parsley or coriander, chopped
1 tsp salt (adjust to taste)
½ tsp black pepper
½ tsp paprika or chili flakes (optional)
¼ cup all-purpose flour (or chickpea flour for gluten-free)
1 large egg (for binding)
2 tbsp grated cheese (optional, for richer flavor)
2 tbsp oil spray (for crispiness in the air fryer)
Instructions
Prepare Potatoes:
Grate the potatoes and place them in a clean kitchen towel.
Squeeze out as much water as possible. This ensures crisp fritters.
Mix Ingredients:
In a large bowl, combine grated potatoes, onion, garlic, parsley, salt, pepper, paprika, flour, egg, and cheese (if using).
Mix until well combined and the mixture holds together.
Shape the Fritters:
Take small portions of the mixture and form into round patties, about ½ inch thick.
Place them on a plate or tray.
Preheat the Air Fryer:
Set the air fryer to 375°F (190°C) and preheat for 3 minutes.
Cook the Fritters:
Lightly spray the fritters with oil.
Arrange them in a single layer in the air fryer basket.
Cook for 15–18 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden brown and crispy.
Serve:
Remove fritters and let cool slightly.
Serve warm with sour cream, ketchup, yogurt dip, or chutney.
Tips & Variations
For extra crunch, coat fritters lightly with breadcrumbs before air frying.
Add grated zucchini or carrots for more veggies.
For a cheesy twist, mix in cheddar or mozzarella.
Leftover fritters can be reheated in the air fryer at 350°F (175°C) for 3–4 minutes.
