¼ cup milk or cream
Salt and pepper, to taste
Optional: ¼ cup grated cheddar for topping
Instructions
Cook the Filling
Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat.
Sauté onion, garlic, and carrots for 3–4 minutes until softened.
Add ground beef or lamb and cook until browned.
Stir in tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, thyme, salt, and pepper.
Add broth and peas, then simmer for 5 minutes.
Optional: Add flour/cornstarch slurry to thicken. Let it cook 1–2 more minutes.
Transfer mixture to an air fryer-safe baking dish (or individual ramekins).
Make the Mashed Potatoes
Boil diced potatoes in salted water for 10–12 minutes or until fork tender.
Drain and mash with butter, milk, salt, and pepper until smooth.
Spoon mashed potatoes over the meat mixture and spread evenly.
Optional: Sprinkle with shredded cheddar cheese.
Air Fry the Shepherd’s Pie
Preheat the air fryer to 180°C (350°F) for 3–5 minutes.
Place the dish in the air fryer basket.
Cook at 180°C (350°F) for 10–12 minutes, or until top is golden and bubbly.
For a crispier top, increase to 200°C (390°F) and air fry for 2–3 more minutes.
Serve
Let rest for 5 minutes before serving to allow the filling to settle.
Garnish with parsley or extra cheese if desired.
Tips & Variations:
Use ramekins for individual servings and faster cooking.
Switch the protein: Ground turkey, chicken, or lentils work great too.
Add more veg: Mushrooms, corn, or zucchini are tasty additions.
No air fryer-safe dish? Use aluminum foil trays or small ceramic dishes.
