Baked Potato Balls
A tasty, bite-sized delicacy, baked potato balls are created by shaping mashed potatoes, cheese, and seasoning into balls and baking them until they are golden and crispy. These are the ideal side dish, snack, or appetizer. This is a basic baked potato ball recipe:
Components:
- Four big chopped and peeled russet potatoes
- Half a cup of shredded cheddar cheese, or any other preferred cheese
- 1/4 cup of optional sour cream (for creaminess)
- Two tablespoons of butter
- 1/4 cup of finely chopped green onions (optional)
- To taste, add salt and pepper.
- One cup of breadcrumbs (for added crunch, panko breadcrumbs are excellent)
- One beaten egg for binding
- Half a cup of flour (to coat)
- Cooking spray or olive oil (for baking)
Directions:
1. Get the potatoes ready:
- The cubed potatoes should be soft and pierced easily with a fork after 10 to 15 minutes of boiling in salted water.
- After draining, put the potatoes back in the pot. Mash them well until they’re smooth.
2. Combine the filling:
- To the mashed potatoes, add the butter, grated cheese, green onions, and sour cream, if using. Add salt and pepper for seasoning.
- Mix everything until the cheese is melted and thoroughly mixed in. Before handling, allow the mixture to cool slightly.
3. Create the potato balls:
- Using your hands, scoop out about 2 tablespoons of the mashed potato mixture and form it into a ball.
- Depending on your preferred size, make 12–15 potato balls by repeating with the remaining mixture.
4. Coat the balls of potato:
- Three shallow bowls should be set up at the breading station: one for the flour, one for the beaten egg, and one for the breadcrumbs.
- Each potato ball should be rolled in flour, dipped in egg, and then covered with breadcrumbs, pressing lightly to ensure they adhere.
5. Put the potato balls in the oven:
- Set the oven temperature to 400°F, or 200°C. Apply cooking spray or olive oil on a baking sheet to lightly coat it.
- Make sure the breaded potato balls are not in contact with one another when you place them on the baking sheet that has been prepared.
- Bake for about 20-25 minutes, flipping halfway through, until the potato balls are golden brown and crispy.
6. Serve:
- Before serving, take the cooked potato balls out of the oven and allow them to cool somewhat.
- Serve with your preferred dipping sauce, like ketchup, ranch dressing, or a hot aioli.
Advice:
- Change up the flavor by adding sautéed garlic, cooked bacon bits, or shredded poultry to the mashed potato mixture.
- Cheese: You can use any cheese you like—cheddar, mozzarella, or a blend of both works great.
- Make ahead: You can construct the potato balls and freeze them before baking. Just put them on a baking sheet right out of the freezer and bake for a few more minutes when you’re ready.
With cheesy delight in every mouthful, these baked potato balls have a crunchy outside and a creamy interior. They are a wonderful side dish for any meal or a great party snack. Have fun!
