Bombs of Apple Pie
Ingredients:
- 1 can (8-count) of Pillsbury Homestyle Butter Tastin’ or other chilled biscuits
- 1 ½ cups store-bought or homemade apple pie filling
- Optional: add ½ teaspoon of cinnamon to improve store-bought filling.
- Half a cup of powdered sugar
- One tablespoon of cinnamon powder
- Two tablespoons of melted unsalted butter
- Vanilla ice cream or caramel sauce for serving are optional.
Directions:
Warm up the oven:
Warm up to 190°C (375°F). Grease a baking sheet gently or line it with parchment paper.
Get the filling ready:
To make stuffing easier, cut the apple slices into smaller pieces if you’re using store-bought apple pie filling.
If you want more flavor, add more cinnamon.
Get the biscuits ready:
Make a 4-inch round out of each biscuit.
Put one or two tablespoons of apple pie filling in the middle of each biscuit that has been flattened.
Create the Bombs:
Pinch the seams to ensure a tight seal as you carefully bring the biscuit’s edges up and around the filling.
To avoid leaks during baking, make sure the filling is not visible.
Cinnamon Sugar Coating: Combine the ground cinnamon and granulated sugar in a small bowl.
After brushing each ball of dough with melted butter, equally coat them by rolling them in the cinnamon-sugar mixture.
Bake: Place the apple pie bombs on the baking sheet that has been prepared, seam side down.
Bake until golden brown, 15 to 18 minutes.
Before serving, let it cool a little.
Serve warm, with a drizzle of caramel sauce and a dollop of vanilla ice cream, if desired.
Advice:
Make-Ahead: You can put these together a few hours ahead of time and keep them in the fridge until you’re ready to bake them.
Enhance Flavor: For a more nuanced flavor profile, sprinkle the apple filling with nutmeg or cloves.
