Caramelized Cinnamon Bananas

Caramelized Cinnamon Bananas

Ingredients:

    • 2 ripe bananas, sliced
    • 2 tablespoons butter or oil
    • 1 tablespoon cinnamon
    • 2 tablespoons brown sugar or granulated sugar (optional for extra sweetness)
    • Pinch of salt (optional)
  • Honey or maple syrup (for serving, optional)

Steps to Prepare:

    1. Prepare the Bananas:
Begin by peeling the bananas and slicing them into even pieces. You can slice them into rounds or diagonally—whichever shape you prefer. The important thing is that the slices are roughly uniform in size, which will ensure even cooking.
    1. Heat the Pan:
Place a non-stick skillet or frying pan on medium heat and add the butter (or oil) to the pan. Allow the butter to melt completely and become slightly bubbly. If you’re using oil, choose a neutral oil that won’t overpower the flavor of the bananas, such as vegetable or coconut oil.
    2. Add the Bananas to the Pan:
Once the butter or oil has melted, add the sliced bananas to the pan in a single layer. Let them cook for about 2-3 minutes on one side, allowing them to become golden brown and caramelized. Don’t move the bananas around too much so they can cook evenly.
    3. Add the Cinnamon and Sugar:
After the bananas have caramelized on one side, sprinkle the cinnamon over them. If you like your bananas sweeter, add the brown sugar or granulated sugar at this point. Stir gently to coat the bananas with the cinnamon and sugar mixture. The sugar will begin to melt and caramelize, giving the bananas a rich, sweet glaze. Continue cooking for another 1-2 minutes, until the bananas are fully caramelized.
  1. Season and Finish:
If you like, add a pinch of salt to balance the sweetness of the dish. The salt enhances the caramelization and creates a lovely contrast with the sweetness of the bananas. Give everything a final stir and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes, ensuring that the bananas are coated in the sticky, caramelized sauce.
  2. Serve:
Transfer the caramelized cinnamon bananas to a plate or bowl. For added indulgence, drizzle with a little honey or maple syrup. You can serve these warm bananas over pancakes, waffles, or oatmeal, or simply enjoy them on their own.
