Cheesy casserole with tater tots and meatballs

Cheesy casserole with tater tots and meatballs

Ingredients

  1. One pound of ground turkey or beef
  2. One cup of bread crumbs
  3. One egg
  4. One teaspoon of powdered garlic
  5. One teaspoon of powdered onion
  6. To taste, add salt and pepper.
  7. One jar of marinara sauce (approximately 24 ounces)
  8. Three cups of tater tots, frozen
  9. Two cups of mozzarella cheese, shredded
  10. One cup of Parmesan cheese, grated
  11. Fresh herbs or Italian seasoning are optional garnishes.

Directions

Warm up the oven: Set the oven temperature to 375°F, or 190°C.
Prepare the meatballs: Ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, onion and garlic powders, salt, and pepper should all be combined in a big basin. Stir until well blended. Make little meatballs that are approximately an inch in diameter.
Prepare the meatballs: The meatballs should be browned in a pan over medium heat for five to seven minutes. They will continue to bake in the oven, so they don’t need to be cooked through.
To assemble the casserole, put half of the marinara sauce in a 9 x 13-inch baking dish that has been oiled. Cover the sauce with a layer of the browned meatballs. Cover with the leftover marinara.
Place the frozen tater tots on top of the meatballs and sauce in an even layer.
Cheese Layer: Cover the tater tots with a layer of mozzarella and Parmesan cheese.
Bake: For twenty-five minutes, bake the dish covered with aluminum foil. After taking off the foil, bake for a further 15 to 20 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbling and the tater tots are crispy.
Serve: If preferred, top with fresh herbs or Italian seasoning after letting cool for a few minutes. Warm up and serve.
