 Total Time: 50–60 minutes

Prep Time: 15–20 minutes

Cook Time: 35–40 minutes

 Servings: 4–6

Ingredients

4 medium potatoes (Yukon Gold or Russet), peeled and thinly sliced (about ⅛ inch thick)

2 tbsp butter

2 tbsp all-purpose flour

1½ cups milk (whole or 2%)

1 tsp garlic powder

½ tsp onion powder

Salt and pepper to taste

1½ cups shredded cheddar cheese (divided)

¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional)

1 tsp Dijon mustard (optional for depth)

Olive oil spray or butter for greasing

Fresh thyme or chopped parsley (optional garnish)

Instructions

Pre-Cook the Potatoes (Optional but Recommended)

To ensure even cooking in the air fryer:

Place potato slices in a microwave-safe bowl, cover, and microwave for 4–5 minutes to soften slightly.

Drain any excess moisture and set aside.

Make the Cheese Sauce

In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat.

Whisk in flour and cook for 1 minute to form a roux.

Slowly add milk, whisking constantly until smooth and slightly thickened (about 3–5 minutes).

Stir in garlic powder, onion powder, salt, pepper, and Dijon mustard if using.

Add 1 cup cheddar cheese and whisk until melted and smooth.

Assemble the Bake

Grease a small oven-safe dish or foil tray (that fits into your air fryer basket) with butter or spray.

Layer half the potato slices, then pour over half the cheese sauce.

Repeat with the remaining potatoes and cheese sauce.

Top with the remaining ½ cup cheddar and optional Parmesan.

Air Fry

Preheat air fryer to 330°F (165°C) for 3 minutes.

Place the baking dish into the air fryer basket.

Air fry at 330°F for 30–35 minutes, checking at the 25-minute mark.

If the top browns too fast, cover loosely with foil during the last 10 minutes.

Tip: Use a fork to check for doneness—potatoes should be tender all the way through.

 Optional Add-Ins

Crumbled cooked bacon between layers

Sautéed onions or mushrooms

Thin slices of ham or turkey

A dash of nutmeg in the cheese sauce for classic flair

 To Serve

Let rest for 5–10 minutes before slicing. Garnish with fresh parsley or thyme.
