🍪 Ingredients
For the base:
1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, melted
2 cups packed brown sugar
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Pinch of salt
For the caramel layer:
1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk
½ cup unsalted butter
½ cup light brown sugar
For the topping:
2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips or chopped chocolate
1 cup chopped pecans or walnuts
👩🍳 Instructions
Step 1: Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish and line it with parchment paper for easy removal later.
Step 2: Make the Base
In a large bowl, mix melted butter, brown sugar, vanilla, flour, baking powder, and a pinch of salt. Stir until you get a crumbly, dough-like mixture. Press it evenly into the prepared dish to form the base.
Step 3: Bake the Base
Bake for 15–18 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden. Remove and let it cool slightly while you prepare the caramel.
Step 4: Prepare the Caramel Layer
In a saucepan over medium heat, combine condensed milk, butter, and brown sugar. Stir continuously until the mixture becomes thick, smooth, and golden — about 7–10 minutes. Pour the hot caramel evenly over the baked crust.
Step 5: Add the Topping
Immediately sprinkle chocolate chips over the warm caramel. Let them sit for a few minutes, then gently spread into a glossy layer. Sprinkle chopped pecans or walnuts on top.
Step 6: Cool & Serve
Allow the dessert to cool for an hour at room temperature, then refrigerate for 1–2 hours until fully set. Slice into bars and enjoy your rich, gooey, chocolate-caramel masterpiece!
