CLASSICAL GOULASH DESIGN

Ingredients

Regarding the Goulash:

  1. One pound of ground beef
  2. One medium onion, chopped
  3. Two minced garlic cloves
  4. One sliced bell pepper, either red or green
  5. One can of diced tomatoes (with liquids), 14.5 ounces
  6. One 8-oz can of tomato sauce
  7. One cup of water or beef broth
  8. Worcestershire sauce, two tablespoons
  9. One teaspoon of Italian seasoning
  10. One teaspoon of paprika
  11. Half a teaspoon of salt (or to taste)
  12. Half a teaspoon of black pepper
  13. Two cups of raw elbow macaroni
  14. One cup of cheddar cheese, shredded (for topping)
  15. As an optional garnish:
  16. Chopped fresh parsley

Directions

The beef should be browned.

  • Heat a little oil in a big pot or Dutch oven over medium heat. Using a spoon, break up the ground beef while it cooks until it turns brown. If needed, drain extra fat.

Sauté the vegetables:

  • Add the bell pepper, diced onion, and minced garlic to the pot. The vegetables should be softened after around five minutes of sautéing.

Include the sauces:

  • Add the Worcestershire sauce, tomato sauce, beef broth, Italian seasoning, paprika, salt, black pepper, and diced tomatoes (with juices). Heat the mixture until it simmers.

Prepare the macaroni:

  • Stir to incorporate the uncooked elbow macaroni into the saucepan. Cover and simmer, tossing periodically to keep the pasta from sticking, until it is cooked and soft, about 10 to 12 minutes. You can add a little additional water or beef broth if the mixture becomes too thick.

Put cheese on it:

  • Take the saucepan off of the burner after the macaroni is done. Add half of the cheddar cheese shreds and stir until melted and mixed together.

Serve:

  • Arrange the goulash in bowls and sprinkle the leftover cheddar cheese on top of each portion. If desired, garnish with freshly chopped parsley.

Advice

  • Variations: For added nutrition and taste, feel free to add more veggies like corn, peas, or carrots.
  • To make it spicy, add diced jalapeños or a dash of red pepper flakes.
  • Storage: You may keep leftovers in the fridge for up to three days if you store them in an airtight container. Before serving, reheat in the microwave or on the stovetop.
