This DIY laxative drink with dried plums and dates is a great option if you’re searching for a mild and natural way to clear your system and relieve constipation. The high fiber content and inherent laxative qualities of these two dried fruits are widely known. Here’s how to prepare this easy yet powerful drink.
Components:
- 150 grams, or almost one cup, of dried plums
- 150 grams, or almost one cup, of dried dates
- Five cups of water
Directions:
Get the ingredients ready:
- If the dates and dried plums aren’t already pitted, do so now. If they are particularly large, cut them roughly so they cook evenly and release their nutrients more effectively.
Cook the mixture.
- In a large saucepan, combine the dried plums and chopped dates.
Fill the pot with the five cups of water.
- Over medium-high heat, bring the mixture to a boil. Then, lower the heat and simmer it gently for 20 to 30 minutes. The water should get syrupy and the fruits should go extremely mushy.
Mix the mixture (if desired):
- You can combine everything to achieve a smoother texture after the mixture has cooked and the fruits are tender. Transfer the mixture to a standard blender or blend it by hand. The combination will be heated, so proceed with caution.
- You can omit this step and only use the softened fruits if you like a more textured beverage.
After straining, serve:
- If you want to strain the mixture—especially if you didn’t blend it—use a fine mesh strainer. This will make the drink smoother by removing any big chunks.
- Before drinking, let the beverage cool to a comfortable temperature. It can be chilled in the refrigerator or consumed warm.
The dosage
- To gauge your body’s reaction, start with a modest glass (100ml or less) in the morning on an empty stomach.
- Before going to bed, you can have one more little glass.
