Cracker Barrel-Style Fried Apples Recipe
These Southern-style fried apples are sweet, buttery, and perfectly spiced with cinnamon—just like the classic side dish from Cracker Barrel! They make a delicious topping for pancakes, waffles, or even served warm with ice cream.
Ingredients:
For the Apples:
6 medium Golden Delicious or Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
4 tablespoons unsalted butter
½ cup brown sugar (packed)
½ teaspoon cinnamon
¼ teaspoon nutmeg (optional)
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
½ cup apple juice or cider
1 teaspoon cornstarch (optional, for thickening)
1 pinch of salt
Instructions:
Cook the Apples
In a large skillet, melt butter over medium heat.
Add apple slices and sauté for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until slightly softened.
Add Sugar & Spices
Stir in brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg (if using), and salt.
Pour in apple juice or cider and stir well.
Let the mixture simmer for 5-7 minutes, allowing the apples to soften and absorb the flavors.
Thicken the Sauce
If you prefer a thicker sauce, mix 1 teaspoon cornstarch with 1 tablespoon water, then stir it into the skillet.
Continue cooking for 2-3 minutes, until the sauce thickens and coats the apples.
Final Touch & Serve
Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract.
Serve warm as a side dish, topping, or dessert!
