Crisp Cookies with Golden Sugar
Components:
- One cup (2 sticks) softened unsalted butter
- One cup of sugar granules
- One huge egg
- One teaspoon of vanilla extract
- Two and a half cups of all-purpose flour
- Half a teaspoon of baking soda
- One-fourth teaspoon of salt
- 1/4 cup more sugar (for dough rolling)
Directions:
1. Get the oven ready:
- Set the oven temperature to 175°C (350°F). To make cleanup easier, line two baking pans with silicone baking mats or parchment paper.
2. Cream the sugar and butter together:
- Using a hand mixer or stand mixer, beat the granulated sugar and softened butter in a large mixing basin until they are light and fluffy. It will take two to three minutes.
- Beat in the egg and vanilla essence until well combined.
3. Include the dry components:
- Mix the flour, baking soda, and salt in a another basin.
- Mix the dry ingredients into the butter mixture just until mixed, then add them gradually. Take care not to mix too much.
4. Form the dough:
- Using your hands, scoop out about 1 tablespoon of dough and roll it into a ball. For consistent size, you can alternatively use a cookie scoop.
- Lightly coat each ball of dough by rolling it in the extra granulated sugar.
5. Press the Cookies Flat:
- Arrange the balls of sugar-coated dough, about 2 inches apart, on the baking sheets that have been prepared.
- Each ball of dough should be gently flattened by pressing down on it with your fingertips or the back of a glass. Avoid flattening the cookies too much because they will spread somewhat while baking.
6. Prepare the cookies:
- For 8 to 10 minutes, or until the rims are brown and the centers appear set but still soft, bake the cookies in a preheated oven.
- Depending on your oven and cookie size, baking times can vary significantly, so keep an eye on them.
7. Allow to cool before serving:
- After baking, take the cookies out of the oven and let them cool for five minutes on the baking sheet. After that, move the cookies to a wire rack to finish cooling.
Advice:
- For Extra Crispness: Bake the cookies for an additional minute or two to achieve an extra crispy texture, but take care not to burn them.
- Sugar Options: For a slightly different taste, try rolling the dough in cinnamon sugar or turbinado sugar (raw sugar).
- Make Ahead: The dough can be made in advance, rolled into balls, and then frozen. After that, bake the frozen dough straight for an additional one to two minutes.
Easy to prepare, these Golden Sugar Crisp Cookies are great to share or savor with a hot cup of coffee or tea. Enjoy them—they’re crisp, sweet, and incredibly addictive!
