Ingredients

  1. One pound of ground sausage, either mild or spicy
  2. One 10-oz can of green chilies and diced tomatoes from Ratel that have been drained
  3. Eight ounces of cream cheese that has softened
  4. Two cups of shredded cheddar cheese
  5. 1/4 cup of all-purpose flour
  6. A single tsp of baking powder
  7. One teaspoon of powdered garlic
  8. Half a teaspoon of powdered onion
  9. Half a teaspoon of salt
  10. Black pepper, half a teaspoon
  11. 1/4 tsp cayenne (very hot if desired)
  12. One cup of optionally shredded cheese

Rules

  • The oven should be set to 350°F (175°C).
  • Combining the Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine the cream cheese, ground sausage and drained Rote. Blend until well combined.
  • Add the Dry Ingredients: In a another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, cinnamon, cayenne, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Add the dry mixture to the banger mixture gradually, stirring frequently, until thoroughly mixed. Then stir in the shreds of cheddar cheese.
  • Form the Balls: Roll the mixture into small, one-inch-diameter balls using your palms. Place them on an oiled or lined baking sheet.
  • Bake: In a preheated oven, bake the sausage balls for 20 to 25 minutes, or until they are cooked through and golden brown. If using, sprinkle the remaining shredded cheese on top for the last 5 minutes of baking.
  • Let them come down somewhat before serving. Get warmed up and have fun!
