DIY Gumdrops
Components:
- Two cups of fruit juice, such as apple, orange, or grape
- One tablespoon of lemon juice
- 1/4 cup sugar (for the gumdrop mixture) in granule form
- Three cups of powdered sugar (to coat)
- 1/4 teaspoon salt and 2 tablespoons of flavorless gelatin
- Optional: Food coloring
Instructions:
Make the Juice Mixture: Combine 1 tablespoon of lemon juice and your preferred fruit juice in a medium pot. Stir add 1/4 teaspoon salt and 1/4 cup granulated sugar until all ingredients are dissolved.
Bloom the Gelatin: Top the juice mixture with the two tablespoons of unflavored gelatin. Allow it to bloom for around five minutes; this will improve the gelatin’s dissolution.
Heat the Mixture: Put the pot over medium heat and whisk continuously until the gelatin has completely dissolved and the mixture is heated. Make sure it doesn’t boil!
Pour into Molds: After the mixture is smooth, pour it into silicone molds for interesting shapes or an 8×8-inch baking dish that has been oiled.
Chill and Set: Place the dish in the refrigerator and leave it there for four to six hours, or until the gumdrops are completely set and solid.
Cut and Shape: Gently take the gumdrops out of the dish once they have solidified. You can use a cookie cutter to create imaginative shapes or cut them into little pieces.
Sprinkle with Sugar: Transfer the three cups of granulated sugar to a shallow dish. Coat each gumdrop completely with the sugar by rolling it in, then shake off any extra.
Store: Keep your homemade gumdrops at room temperature in an airtight container. If you can avoid eating them, they will last for weeks!
Savor your crunchy, fruity gumdrops! These are the ideal snack to have on hand or to share with loved ones.
