Introduction:
This Dorito Casserole is the ultimate comfort food—cheesy, crunchy, and loaded with seasoned ground beef and creamy goodness. It’s a Tex-Mex inspired dish that’s layered like a lasagna but with crushed Doritos instead of noodles. Made in the air fryer for a crispy top and quicker cooking time, it’s perfect for a quick family dinner or a crowd-pleasing weekend treat.
Prep Time: 15 minutes
Cook Time: 15–18 minutes
Total Time: ~30–33 minutes
Ingredients:
Main Layers:
1 lb (450g) ground beef
1 small onion, diced
1 packet taco seasoning (or 2 tbsp homemade)
1/2 cup water
1 (10 oz) can Rotel (diced tomatoes with green chilies), drained
1 (10.5 oz) can cream of mushroom or cream of chicken soup
1/2 cup sour cream
2 cups shredded cheddar cheese (or a Mexican blend)
3 cups crushed nacho cheese Doritos (save some whole for garnish if desired)
Instructions:
Cook the Beef Mixture:
Heat a skillet over medium heat.
Add ground beef and diced onion. Cook until beef is browned and onions are soft (5–7 minutes). Drain excess fat.
Stir in taco seasoning and 1/2 cup water. Let it simmer for 2–3 minutes until thickened.
Add Rotel, cream soup, and sour cream. Stir until well combined. Remove from heat.
Prepare the Casserole Layers:
Spray a 7-inch round or square air fryer-safe baking dish (or cake pan) with nonstick spray.
Layer in this order:
A layer of crushed Doritos (about 1 cup)
Half the beef mixture
Sprinkle 1/3 of the cheese
Another layer of crushed Doritos
Remaining beef mixture
Top with remaining Doritos and cheese
Air Fry:
Preheat air fryer to 320°F (160°C) for 3 minutes.
Place the dish in the air fryer basket.
Air fry at 320°F (160°C) for 15–18 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly with crispy edges.
Optional: For extra browning, increase to 350°F (175°C) for the last 2 minutes.
Optional Toppings:
Chopped green onions
Diced tomatoes
Jalapeño slices
Extra crushed Doritos
Sour cream or salsa on the side
Tips:
Use lean ground beef to reduce grease.
For a spicier kick, add a few dashes of hot sauce to the beef mixture.
You can prep this casserole a day ahead and air fry just before serving.
