Easy Air Fryer Naan Bread

Table of Contents

Intro

Naan is a traditional Indian flatbread known for its pillowy texture and slightly chewy bite. While it’s traditionally made in a tandoor, the air fryer replicates that high-heat environment surprisingly well—resulting in bubbly, golden, restaurant-style naan from the comfort of your home. No yeast? No problem—this version uses baking powder for instant rise!

Prep Time: 10 minutes

Rest Time: 30 minutes

Cook Time: 6–8 minutes (per batch)

Total Time: ~50 minutes

Servings: 6 naan (depending on size)

Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour

1/2 cup plain yogurt (or Greek yogurt)

1/4 cup milk (warm)

2 tbsp oil or melted butter

1 tsp baking powder

1/4 tsp baking soda

1/2 tsp salt

1–2 tbsp water (as needed for soft dough)

Optional Toppings:

Melted butter or garlic butter

Chopped fresh cilantro

Sesame seeds or nigella seeds

Instructions

Make the Dough

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together:

Flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

Add in the yogurt, milk, and oil.

Mix until it comes together into a soft dough.

Add a little water only if needed.

Knead for about 3–5 minutes until smooth.

Rest the Dough

Cover the dough with a damp cloth.

Let it rest at room temperature for 30 minutes to relax the gluten.

Divide and Roll

Divide dough into 6 equal balls.

On a lightly floured surface, roll each ball into a tear-drop or oval shape, about 1/4 inch thick.

Preheat Air Fryer

Preheat your air fryer at 200°C (390°F) for 3–5 minutes.

Air Fry the Naan

Place 1 or 2 naan in the air fryer basket (depending on its size, don’t overlap).

Air fry at 200°C (390°F) for 3–4 minutes, flipping halfway through.

Naan should puff slightly and develop light brown spots.

Brush and Serve

Immediately brush the hot naan with melted butter or garlic butter.

Garnish with chopped cilantro or sesame seeds if desired.

Tips and Tricks

Don’t roll the naan too thick or it won’t cook evenly.

Yogurt helps make naan soft and flavorful—use full-fat for best results.

You can also stuff it with cheese or garlic before air frying!

For crispy edges, lightly spray the surface with oil before cooking.

Serving Suggestions

Pair with chicken tikka masala, dal, or chana masala.

Use as a wrap for kebabs or grilled veggies.

Enjoy with a side of raita or chutney.
