Easy Alabama Firecracker Recipe
Prep time: 10-15 minutes (for mixing the seasoning and coating the crackers)
Rest time: 15-30 minutes (to allow the seasoning to soak in)
Bake time: 30-40 minutes (to bake and crisp the crackers)
Ingredients:
1 sleeve of Saltine crackers (about 40-50 crackers)
1/2 cup Olive oil
1 packet ranch seasoning mix (1 oz)
1 tsp red pepper flakes (adjust to your heat preference)
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp onion powder
1/2 tsp cayenne pepper (optional, for extra heat)
1/2 tsp smoked paprika (optional, for extra flavor)
1 tbsp dried parsley (optional, for garnish)
Instructions:
1. Prep the Seasoning Mix:
In a large bowl, whisk together the vegetable oil, ranch seasoning, red pepper flakes, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne pepper (if using), and smoked paprika. Stir well to ensure the seasonings are fully combined with the oil.
2. Coat the Crackers:
Break the Saltine crackers into halves or quarters (depending on your preference) and place them in a large, resealable plastic bag or a large mixing bowl.
Pour the seasoning mix over the crackers. If using a plastic bag, seal it tightly and gently shake the bag to coat the crackers evenly. If using a bowl, carefully toss the crackers to ensure they are all coated with the seasoning mixture.
3. Let the Crackers Sit:
Once the crackers are coated, let them sit for about 15-30 minutes to allow the flavors to soak in. You can stir or shake the crackers a couple of times during this period to ensure even coating.
4. Bake the Crackers:
Preheat your oven to 250°F (120°C).
Spread the seasoned crackers out in a single layer on a large baking sheet.
Bake for 30-40 minutes, stirring the crackers every 10-15 minutes to ensure they cook evenly and get crispy. Be careful not to burn them.
5. Cool and Serve:
After baking, remove the crackers from the oven and let them cool completely on the baking sheet.
Once they’ve cooled, you can garnish with dried parsley for an extra touch of color, though it’s optional.
Enjoy!
These Alabama Firecrackers are spicy, crispy, and packed with flavor—perfect for snacking! They’re a great option for parties, road trips, or as a fun appetizer to spice up your day. Enjoy!
