Ingredients
1 1/2 pounds ground beef
1 cup breadcrumbs
1/2 cup milk
2 large onions, thinly sliced
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 egg, beaten
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
1 teaspoon dried thyme
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
2 tablespoons butter
1/4 cup beef broth
1 cup shredded Gruyère or Swiss cheese
Instructions
Set the oven temperature to 175°C (350°F).
Melt the butter in a skillet over medium heat, then cook the thinly sliced onions for 20 to 25 minutes, or until they are caramelized and golden brown.
To deglaze the pan, add a little beef stock and stir until the liquid is absorbed. Let it cool.
Ground beef, breadcrumbs, milk, minced garlic, beaten egg, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, dried thyme, salt, and pepper should all be combined in a big bowl. Blend until thoroughly combined.
Add half of the shredded Gruyère cheese and the caramelized onions and fold. Put the mixture on a baking dish after shaping it into a loaf.
Bake for one hour, or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (70°C), in a preheated oven.
Top the meatloaf with the remaining shredded Gruyère cheese, then bake for a further five to ten minutes, or until the cheese is bubbling and melted. Before slicing, let the meatloaf rest for ten minutes.
