Fried Gnocchi Bites recipe
I wanted a finger food with a crisp exterior and a pillowy center. These fried gnocchi bites hit all the right notes, especially dunked in tangy marinara.
Ingredients:
– 1 lb store-bought gnocchi (or homemade)
– 1/2 cup all-purpose flour (for dredging)
– 2 eggs, beaten
– 1 cup breadcrumbs (panko or Italian-style)
– 1/2 teaspoon salt
– 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
– Vegetable oil for frying
– Grated Parmesan cheese (optional, for garnish)
– Marinara sauce for dipping
Instructions:
1. Prep the gnocchi:
– Cook gnocchi according to package directions, if not already cooked.
– Drain well and pat them dry with paper towels.
2. Set up a breading station:
– In one bowl, place flour.
– In a second bowl, beat the eggs.
– In a third bowl, mix breadcrumbs with salt and pepper.
3. Dredge and coat:
– Roll each gnocchi in flour, tapping off excess.
– Dip into the beaten egg.
– Press into seasoned breadcrumbs until fully coated.
4. Fry until golden:
– Heat about 1 inch of oil in a skillet over medium-high heat.
– Carefully place coated gnocchi into the hot oil.
– Fry for 2-3 minutes or until golden brown on all sides.
– Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate to remove excess oil.
5. Serve:
– Sprinkle with grated Parmesan if desired.
– Enjoy hot with marinara sauce on the side for dipping.
