Ingredients

  • 4 slices of bread (your choice: white, sourdough, whole wheat)
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar, mozzarella, or a blend)
  • 2 tablespoons butter, softened
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried herbs (like oregano or basil, optional)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Bread:
    • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) if you want to make these in the oven. Alternatively, you can use a skillet on the stovetop.
  2. Mix the Butter:
    • In a small bowl, combine the softened butter with garlic powder and dried herbs (if using). Mix until well blended.
  3. Spread the Butter:
    • Spread the butter mixture generously on one side of each slice of bread.
  4. Assemble the Toast:
    • Place the bread slices butter-side down on a baking sheet (or in the skillet). Top each slice with shredded cheese. You can add a sprinkle of salt and pepper if desired.
  5. Bake or Cook:
    • Oven Method: Bake in the preheated oven for about 10-12 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and the edges are golden brown.
