Homemade Yeast Donuts

Homemade Yeast Donuts

Ingredients:

  • 200ml (0.82 cup) warm milk
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 7g yeast
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 egg
  • 400g (3.2 cups) all-purpose flour
  • 40g (0.18 cup) butter, softened
  • Oil (for frying)
  • Additional sugar (for sprinkling)

Method:

  1. Prepare the Dough:
    • In a mixing bowl, combine the warm milk and sugar. Sprinkle the yeast over the milk mixture and let it sit for about 5 minutes until it becomes frothy.
    • Add the salt, egg, and softened butter to the yeast mixture. Mix well.
    • Gradually add the flour, mixing until a dough forms.
    • Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
    • Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 45 minutes, or until it has doubled in size.
  2. Form the Donuts:
    • After the dough has risen, punch it down to release any air bubbles.
    • Divide the dough into 12 equal parts. Roll each part into a ball.
    • Roll out each ball slightly and use your fingers or a small cutter to create a hole in the center, forming a donut shape.
    • Place the shaped donuts on a baking sheet and cover them with a cloth. Let them rise for another 30 minutes.
  3. Fry the Donuts:
    • Heat a large amount of oil in a deep fryer or a heavy-bottomed pot to 175°C (350°F).
    • Carefully add the donuts to the hot oil, a few at a time, making sure not to overcrowd the pot.
    • Fry each donut for about 2-3 minutes on each side, or until they are golden brown.
    • Use a slotted spoon to remove the donuts from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
  4. Finish and Serve:
    • While the donuts are still warm, sprinkle them generously with sugar.
    • Serve immediately and enjoy!
