Mousse with Chocolate

Mousse with Chocolate

Ingredients

Regarding the Mousse:

  1. Six ounces of chopped semi-sweet or dark chocolate
  2. Three tablespoons of butter without salt
  3. Two huge eggs, separated
  4. 1/4 cup of sugar, granulated
  5. One teaspoon of vanilla extract
  6. One cup of heavy cream
  7. A pinch of salt

As an optional garnish:

  • Whipping cream
  • Chocolate curls or shavings
  • Fresh berries (strawberries, raspberries, etc.)
  • Mint leaves

Directions

Melt the chocolate.

  • Put the butter and chopped chocolate in a heatproof bowl. Using a double boiler or microwave, melt them together until smooth, stirring every 20 to 30 seconds. Allow it to cool a little.

Beat the yolks of eggs:

  • Whisk the granulated sugar and egg yolks in a another basin until they are pale and just beginning to thicken. Add the vanilla essence and the melted chocolate mixture and stir until thoroughly blended.

Beat the egg whites:

  • Beat the egg whites with a pinch of salt in a clean basin with an electric mixer until soft peaks form. A tablespoon of sugar should be added gradually while beating until stiff peaks form.

Beat the cream:

  • Beat the heavy cream in a separate bowl until it forms soft peaks.

Blend Mixtures:

  • Until completely combined, gently fold the whipped cream into the chocolate mixture. Then, being cautious not to collapse the mixture, delicately fold in the beaten egg whites in three additions. Keeping it breezy and light is the aim.

Calm down:

  • Transfer the mousse using a spoon into a big bowl or individual serving dishes. Refrigerate for at least two hours, or until set, after covering with plastic wrap.

Serve:

  • Serve chilled, garnished with fresh berries, chocolate shavings, whipped cream, or mint leaves.

Advice

  • Chocolate: For the finest flavor, use high-quality chocolate. Semi-sweet chocolate will taste a little sweeter, whereas dark chocolate (around 70% cocoa) will have a richer flavor.
  • Storage: Keep any leftovers in the fridge for a maximum of three days. The mousse will keep nicely, but it tastes best fresh.
  • Make Ahead: This mousse is ideal for dinner parties and other special events since it can be prepared a day in advance.
