Philly Cheesesteak Cheesy Bread Made at Home
Ingredients
For the filling of the cheesesteak:
- One pound of thinly cut flank or ribeye steak
- One tablespoon of olive oil
- One medium onion, cut thinly
- One medium bell pepper (red or green), thinly sliced
- To taste, add salt and pepper.
- One teaspoon of optional garlic powder
- One cup of shredded provolone cheese (or a combination of cheeses, such as cheddar and mozzarella)
Regarding the Cheesy Bread:
- One large loaf of French or Italian bread
- Half a cup of softened unsalted butter
- Two cups of shredded cheese (either a cheese blend or mozzarella)
- One teaspoon of powdered garlic
- Chopped fresh parsley (optional garnish)
Directions
Get the cheesesteak filling ready.
- Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the bell peppers and chopped onions once it’s heated. Sauté until softened, about 5 to 7 minutes.
- Season with salt, pepper, and garlic powder before adding the cut steak to the skillet. Cook for three to five minutes, or until the steak is browned and cooked through. Take off the heat and place aside.
Get the Cheesy Bread ready:
- Set the oven temperature to 375°F, or 190°C.
- Cut the bread loaf in half lengthwise. Lay the halves cut side up on a baking sheet.
- Combine the garlic powder and softened butter in a small bowl. Evenly cover the bread’s cut sides with garlic butter.
Put together:
- Evenly distribute the cheesesteak filling over the bread.
- Cover the filling with a liberal amount of the shredded cheese.
Bake:
- Bake for 15 to 20 minutes in a preheated oven, or until the bread is brown around the edges and the cheese is melted and bubbling.
Serve:
- Take it out of the oven and give it some time to cool. Serve warm, sliced into pieces, garnished with fresh parsley if preferred.
Advice:
- You can alter the filling by using different kinds of cheese or by adding mushrooms.
- Add some sautéed mushrooms or a sprinkle of spicy sauce to the filling for added taste.
