Recipe for Caramel Frosting
This creamy, smooth, and sweet caramel frosting is ideal for icing cakes, cupcakes, or even cookies. A wide range of baked items are a great match for the rich caramel flavor!
Components:
- One cup of brown sugar
- Half a cup of butter
- 1/4 cup of milk
- Two to three cups of powdered sugar (adjust for consistency if necessary)
- One teaspoon of optional vanilla extract
Instructions:
1. Melt Brown Sugar and Butter: Heat a medium saucepan over low heat to melt the butter. Add the brown sugar when it has melted, stirring continuously until the sugar is all dissolved. It should take a few minutes, so be patient. It’s important to keep the heat low so the sugar doesn’t burn.
2. Add Milk: After the sugar has dissolved, gradually pour in the milk while stirring constantly. Bring the mixture to a moderate boil by turning up the heat to medium.
3. Boil: While stirring continuously, let the mixture boil for two to three minutes. In order to achieve the proper consistency for frosting, this step helps thicken the mixture.
4. Cool Mixture: Take the pot off of the burner and give the caramel mixture a few minutes to cool somewhat. It should be warm enough to add powdered sugar without being overly hot.
5. Add Powdered Sugar: Add 2 cups of powdered sugar at a time, mixing thoroughly after each addition. For a smoother consistency, you can use an electric mixer or a whisk. If necessary, add up to 3 cups more powdered sugar until the frosting is the thickness and spread ability you want.
6. Add Vanilla (Optional): To add even more flavor, stir in the vanilla extract.
7. Use Right Away: Frost your cake, cupcakes, or other delicacy as soon as the frosting achieves the consistency you want it to. Use the frosting when it’s still spreadable because it will thicken as it cools.
Savor the rich caramel icing!
