Recipe for wet burritos
Ingredients
Regarding the burritos:
- One pound of ground beef (or, for vegetarians, turkey, chicken, or beans)
- One little onion, chopped
- One package of homemade taco seasoning
- One 15-oz can of ferried beans
- Four big tortillas made with flour
- One cup of shredded cheese, either Monterrey Jack, cheddar, or a combination
- Optional: chopped jalapenos, tomatoes, or additional toppings of choice
Regarding the Sauce:
- One 10-ounce can of homemade or store-bought red enchilada sauce
- One cup of salsa, either mild, medium, or spicy, according on personal taste
Directions
Get the filling ready:
Cook the ground beef and chopped onion in a pan over medium heat until the meat is cooked through and browned. Remove extra fat.
As directed on the box, add the taco seasoning (typically with a little water) and whisk to mix. Cook for two to three more minutes. Take off the heat.
Put the burritos together:
To make the flour tortillas more malleable, warm them up a little.
Line the middle of each tortilla with a layer of refried beans.
Top with cheese, a piece of the meat mixture, and any other toppings you choose.
Tightly wrap up the tortilla after folding the edges over the filling.
Get the sauce ready:
Put the salsa and enchilada sauce in a basin. Stir well.
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) before baking the burritos.
In the bottom of a baking dish, spread a little of the sauce mixture.
In the dish, arrange the constructed burritos seam-side down. Cover the burritos with the remaining sauce and top with more cheese.
Wrap in foil and bake for 20 to 25 minutes, taking off the foil for the last 5 minutes to allow the cheese to bubble and become a light golden colour.
To serve, take it out of the oven and give it some time to cool. If preferred, top with more salsa, guacamole, or sour cream.
Have fun!
