Rich Coffee Ice Cream Made at Home with Chocolate Shavings

Ingredients

Regarding the Ice Cream Base:

  1. Two cups of heavy cream
  2. One cup of whole milk
  3. 3/4 cup of sugar, granulated
  4. One tablespoon of instant coffee granules (modify according to your preferred level of strength)
  5. One teaspoon of vanilla essence, pure
  6. Four huge yolks from eggs
  7. A pinch of salt

Regarding the Shavings of Chocolate:

  • Half a cup of dark or semisweet chocolate, chopped coarsely, or shaved with a chocolate bar

Directions

Get the coffee mixture ready by:

  • The heavy cream, whole milk, sugar, instant coffee granules, and salt should all be combined in a medium pot.
  • Stirring occasionally, heat the mixture over medium heat until it is warm (not boiling) and the coffee and sugar have dissolved. Take off the heat.

Beat the yolks of the eggs:

  • Whisk the egg yolks in a another bowl until they are light and have a tiny thickening.

Warm up the yolks of the eggs:

  • While whisking constantly, slowly pour a tiny bit of the heated cream mixture into the egg yolks. This keeps the yolks from scrambling and helps to temper them.
  • Whisk continuously as you gradually return the tempered egg yolks to the saucepan containing the leftover cream mixture.

Cook the mixture.

  • After putting the saucepan back on low heat, cook it for five to seven minutes, stirring continuously, or until the mixture thickens enough to coat the back of a spoon. Keep it from boiling.

Cool the Blend:

  • After turning off the heat, add the vanilla essence and whisk.
  • To get rid of any cooked egg fragments, strain the mixture through a fine mesh strainer and transfer it to a fresh bowl.
  • After allowing the mixture to reach room temperature, cover it and place it in the refrigerator for at least four hours or overnight.

Turn the ice cream around.

  • As directed by the manufacturer, churn the mixture in an ice cream machine once it has cooled.
  • Add the chocolate shavings after the ice cream is nearly done churning, which should be around five minutes before the end.

Put the ice cream in the freezer:

  • To make the churned ice cream hard, place it in an airtight container and freeze it for at least 4 hours.

Serve:

  • Enjoy the coffee ice cream after scooping it into bowls or cones! You can add more chocolate shavings or a chocolate sauce drizzle as a garnish.

Advice

  • Not able to make ice cream? This ice cream can still be made without a machine. Fill a shallow dish with the cold mixture, then freeze it. Until the mixture is creamy, break up the ice crystals by stirring it with a fork every 30 minutes for around 3–4 hours.
  • Changing Flavor: You are welcome to change the quantity of instant coffee to suit your own tastes. For a stronger coffee flavor, you can also add espresso.
  • Add-ins: For more texture and flavor, think about including nuts, toffee bits, or coffee-flavored liqueurs.
