Savory ground beef, melted cheese, and a variety of delectable seasonings are all combined to create these succulent Savory Beef and Cheese Rolls. You may serve these rolls as an appetizer, supper, or even as a snack!
Components:
For the filling of beef:
- 450g (1 pound) of ground beef
- One little onion, diced finely
- Two minced garlic cloves
- Half a cup of shredded cheddar cheese (or a combination of Monterey Jack, provolone, or mozzarella)
- 1/4 cup of bread crumbs
- One tablespoon of Worcestershire sauce
- One teaspoon of dried oregano or Italian seasoning
- To taste, add salt and pepper.
Regarding the dough (if homemade):
- Two cups of all-purpose flour
- One spoonful of sugar
- One tablespoon of dry active yeast
- 3/4 cup of heated milk (45°C/110°F)
- 1/4 cup of melted butter or olive oil
- Half a teaspoon of salt
- For Putting the Rolls Together:
- One tablespoon of melted butter for brushing
- One tablespoon of freshly chopped parsley or chives, if desired, for garnish
Directions:
1. Get the beef filling ready.
- Heat a tablespoon of oil in a big skillet over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and diced onion. Sauté the onion for 3–4 minutes, or until it is tender and transparent.
- As it cooks, add the ground beef to the skillet and split it up into small pieces. The steak should be cooked through and browned after 5 to 7 minutes of cooking.
- Add the Italian seasoning, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper and stir. To combine the flavors, cook for a further one to two minutes.
- After taking the skillet off of the burner, let the meat mixture cool a little.
- Stir in the breadcrumbs and shredded cheese when the beef has cooled. Put aside.
2. If the dough is being made from scratch, prepare it:
- Put the sugar and heated milk in a small bowl. Stir the milk after adding the yeast. Allow it to sit for five to ten minutes, or until it starts to foam.
- Mix the flour and salt together in a large bowl. Add the olive oil and the yeast mixture. Until a dough forms, stir.
- On a surface dusted with flour, knead the dough for five to seven minutes, or until it is elastic and smooth. A spoonful at a time, add extra flour if the dough is sticky.
- Place a fresh kitchen towel over the dough and leave it in a warm location to rise for one hour, or until it has doubled in size.
3. Put the Rolls Together:
- Set the oven temperature to 375°F, or 190°C. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or grease a baking dish.
- Depending on the size of the rolls you want, punch down the dough once it has risen and divide it into 8–10 equal sections.
- Each dough part should be rolled into a tiny rectangle that is four to five inches broad.
- Put a dollop of the cheese and meat filling in the middle of each rectangle of dough.
- Pinch the edges of the dough to seal the rolls after carefully folding it over the filling. Place the rolls seam-side down on the baking sheet or dish that has been prepped.
4. Prepare the rolls by baking them:
- For a golden, glossy finish, brush the melted butter over the tops of the rolls.
- The rolls should be golden brown and have melted cheese inside after 20 to 25 minutes of baking in a preheated oven.
5. Offer:
- After baking, take the rolls out of the oven and give them some time to cool.
- Add chopped parsley or chives if desired for a new pop of color and taste.
- Warm up and dig in!
Advice:
- For added spiciness, mix some diced jalapeños or a dash of red pepper flakes into the meat filling.
Variations in cheese: You can use any type of cheese you like, such as mozzarella, Swiss, or even a mix of cheeses. - Make ahead: The rolls may be made all the way to the baking stage, covered, and kept in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours. For a hot, fresh supper, bake them right before serving.
- Remaining rolls can be reheated in the microwave or oven and keep well in the refrigerator for two to three days.
The combination of soft, fluffy dough, melted cheese, and savory beef in these Savory Beef and Cheese Rolls is ideal. They’re excellent for hosting guests or for a weeknight dinner. Have fun!
