Scallion Butter Bread Rolls
Ingredients
- Bread Dough:
- Bread flour or wheat flour: 300g (2 cups)
- Egg: 1 large
- Milk: 140g (0.6 cup)
- Sugar: 12g (1 tbsp)
- Yeast: 3g (1 tsp)
- Salt: 3g (1/2 tsp)
- Unsalted butter: 30g (2 tbsp), softened
- Filling:
- Unsalted butter: 80g (5 tbsp), softened
- Black pepper: To taste
- Scallions: Chopped, as needed
- Additional salt: To taste

- Egg wash: 1 egg beaten with a little water
- Sesame seeds: To sprinkle

- Prepare the Dough:
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the bread flour, sugar, yeast, and salt. Mix well.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the egg and milk. Gradually add this wet mixture to the dry ingredients, stirring until a dough forms.
- Add 30g of softened butter to the dough and knead on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Prepare the Dough:
- Preheat the Oven:
- Preheat your oven to 175°C (350°F).
- Shape the Dough:
- Punch down the risen dough and roll it out into a rectangle.
- Spread 80g of softened butter evenly over the dough.
- Sprinkle chopped scallions, black pepper, and a little additional salt over the butter.
- Roll the dough into a log and cut into equal pieces.
- Prepare for Baking:
- Arrange the dough pieces in a greased baking dish, ensuring they are evenly spaced.
- Brush the tops with egg wash and sprinkle with sesame seeds.
- Bake the Bread:
- Bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes or until the tops are golden brown.
- Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving.
