This recipe requires only a few simple pantry ingredients but delivers a dish that tastes like it took much more effort. The slow cooker does all the work, making it a true “set it and forget it” meal. It’s perfect for family dinners, meal prepping for the week, or serving over rice, mashed potatoes, or noodles for a complete and satisfying meal.
Ingredients
4–5 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
½ cup brown sugar
¼ cup soy sauce
3–4 cloves garlic, minced
1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
½ teaspoon paprika
½ teaspoon black pepper
¼ cup chicken broth
1 tablespoon olive oil
Optional for thickening:
1 tablespoon cornstarch mixed with 2 tablespoons water
Instructions
Start by lightly greasing your slow cooker with cooking spray or a small amount of oil. This prevents the chicken from sticking and makes cleanup easier. Place the chicken breasts evenly at the bottom of the slow cooker.
In a medium bowl, whisk together the brown sugar, soy sauce, minced garlic, Italian seasoning, paprika, black pepper, chicken broth, and olive oil. Mix until the ingredients are well combined and the sugar begins to dissolve.
Pour the sauce mixture evenly over the chicken breasts, making sure they are well coated. Cover the slow cooker with the lid and cook on LOW for 4–6 hours or on HIGH for 2–3 hours, until the chicken becomes tender and fully cooked.
For a thicker sauce, remove the chicken from the slow cooker once it’s done. Stir the cornstarch and water together to create a slurry, then mix it into the sauce. Cover and cook for another 10–15 minutes until the sauce thickens.
Return the chicken to the slow cooker and spoon the rich garlic brown sugar sauce over the top. Serve warm with rice, steamed vegetables, or mashed potatoes for a delicious and comforting meal the whole family will love.
