Steak in a Crock Pot Cube

Steak in a Crock Pot Cube

Ingredients

  1. Four cube steaks, weighing between 1.5 and 2 pounds
  2. Half a cup of all-purpose flour
  3. One teaspoon of salt
  4. Half a teaspoon of black pepper
  5. One teaspoon of powdered garlic
  6. One teaspoon of powdered onion
  7. One tablespoon of olive oil (optional for browning)
  8. One medium onion, cut into slices
  9. Two minced garlic cloves
  10. One 10.5-ounce can of cream of mushroom soup (or any other type of cream soup)
  11. One cup of beef broth
  12. One tablespoon of Worcestershire sauce
  13. One teaspoon of dried thyme, or any other preferred herb
  14. One teaspoon of optional paprika
  15. Garnish with fresh parsley (optional).

Directions

Get the Cube Steaks ready:

  • Mix the flour, salt, black pepper, onion powder, and garlic powder in a small plate. Coat each cube steak evenly on both sides by dredging it in the flour mixture.

Brown the meat if you want to:

  • Heat the olive oil in a big skillet over medium-high heat. The cube steaks should have a lovely golden crust after frying for two to three minutes on each side. If you’re pressed for time, you may omit this step, which provides extra flavour.

In the Crock Pot, layer:

  • At the bottom of the crock pot, arrange the minced garlic and sliced onions. Place the raw or browned cube steaks over the onions.

Get the gravy ready:

  • Combine the beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, cream of mushroom soup, paprika (if using), and thyme in a medium bowl. Cover the cube steaks in the crock pot with this mixture.

Cook

  • Cover and cook until the beef is soft and shreds easily with a fork, 6–8 hours on low or 3–4 hours on high.

Serve:

  • When finished, taste the gravy and add more salt and pepper if necessary to adjust the seasoning. Serve the gravy-topped cube steaks over noodles, rice, or mashed potatoes. If desired, garnish with fresh parsley.

Advice

  • Make it a supper: To make the crock pot a full supper, you can add veggies like green beans, potatoes, or carrots.
  • Remaining food can be kept in the fridge for up to three days in an airtight container. Gently reheat in the microwave or on the hob.
  • Variations: You can add crushed red pepper flakes or a teaspoon of hot sauce to the gravy mixture to give a little spice.
