Steak with Mushroom Sauce Recipe
Ingredients:
- For the Steak:
- 2 ribeye or sirloin steaks (about 1 inch thick)
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 tablespoon butter
- For the Mushroom Sauce:
- 8 oz (about 225g) mushrooms (cremini or button), sliced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 cup beef broth
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon fresh thyme (or 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme)
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions:
1. Prepare the Steaks:
- Remove the steaks from the refrigerator and let them sit at room temperature for about 30 minutes. Season both sides with salt and pepper.
2. Cook the Steaks:
- In a skillet over medium-high heat, heat the olive oil and butter. Once hot, add the steaks to the skillet.
- Cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side for medium-rare (adjust cooking time for your preferred doneness). Once cooked, remove the steaks from the skillet and let them rest on a plate, covered loosely with foil.
3. Make the Mushroom Sauce:
- In the same skillet, add the sliced mushrooms. Sauté for about 5-7 minutes, or until they are golden brown and have released their moisture.
- Add the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute until fragrant.
- Pour in the beef broth and scrape the bottom of the skillet to deglaze, releasing any flavorful bits. Let it simmer for about 2-3 minutes.
- Stir in the heavy cream, Worcestershire sauce, thyme, salt, and pepper. Let the sauce simmer for another 3-4 minutes until slightly thickened.
4. Serve:
- Slice the steaks if desired and plate them. Spoon the mushroom sauce over the steaks and garnish with fresh parsley.
Enjoy!
