Texas Trash Dip with Meat
Components
Regarding the Dip:
- Half a pound of ground beef
- Half a pound of spicy breakfast sausage (or mild or hot sausage of your choosing)
- One box (8 oz) of softened cream cheese
- One cup of sour cream
- One 10-ounce can of Rotel diced tomatoes with green chilies (or, if you don’t like the heat, plain diced tomatoes)
- One 4-ounce can of chopped green chiles
- One fifteen-ounce can of chili beans (or washed and drained pinto beans)
- One packet of taco seasoning (1 oz)
- One cup of cheddar cheese, shredded
- One cup of shredded Mexican blend cheese, or your preferred combination
- Half a cup of chopped green onions (optional garnish)
- Slices of jalapeño (optional, for added heat)
- Crackers, tortilla chips, or vegetables for dipping
Directions:
Prepare the sausage and ground beef:
- Heat a small amount of oil in a big skillet over medium heat. Add the sausage and ground meat. Cook for 7 to 10 minutes, breaking it up with a spoon, until it is thoroughly cooked and browned. Empty any extra oil.
Get the Dip Base ready:
- Add the sour cream and softened cream cheese to the meat mixture and reduce the heat to medium-low. Mix everything together to create a smooth base and stir until the cream cheese melts.
Incorporate the Taste:
- Add the green chilies, chili beans (with their liquid), and Rotel tomatoes and stir. Stir everything together after adding the taco spice. Simmer until heated and bubbling, stirring periodically, about 5 minutes.
Put the cheese in there:
- After the liquid is well heated, gradually add the Mexican blend cheese and shredded cheddar cheese until the cheese is completely melted and the dip is smooth.
Serve:
- If the dip is oven-safe, keep it in the skillet; otherwise, transfer it to a serving dish. If preferred, garnish with chopped green onions and slices of jalapeño for a little more taste.
Have fun:
- Serve hot with crackers, tortilla chips, or fresh vegetables for dipping, such as bell peppers, carrots, or celery. If you’re serving it at a party or get-together, you can also keep it warm in a slow cooker.
Advice:
- For added taste, you can spice up the dip base with a few dashes of your preferred chili powder or a little amount of hot sauce.
- Customize it by adding chopped onions, bell peppers, or olives for extra texture and flavor, or by using different kinds of beans (black beans, refried beans, etc.).
- Turn it into a meal: If served with rice or tortilla chips for scooping, this dip is substantial enough to be a main meal.
Serving Recommendations:
- Drinks: Enjoy it with a cool iced tea, margarita, or beer.
- Sides: To counterbalance the richness of the dip, try a simple side salad with a zesty dressing.
The ultimate comfort dish and a guaranteed hit at your next gathering is this meaty Texas trash dip! It’s hot, cheesy, and completely irresistible.
