Thai Chicken Lettuce Wraps are a tasty and nutritious dish that usually consists of crisp lettuce leaves wrapped around ground chicken, fresh herbs, and veggies. To make them at home, follow this easy recipe:

Components:

Regarding the filling:

  • One pound of ground chicken
  • Two tablespoons of vegetable or olive oil
  • One little onion, chopped finely
  • Two minced garlic cloves
  • One red bell pepper, cut finely
  • One grated or julienned carrot
  • 1/2 cup water chestnuts, chopped (optional; adds crunch)
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro, 2 chopped green onions, and 1 tablespoon minced fresh ginger (optional)

Regarding the sauce:

  • Three tablespoons of gluten-free tamari or soy sauce
  • One tablespoon of fish sauce
  • One tablespoon of rice vinegar
  • One tablespoon of lime juice
  • One tablespoon of honey or brown sugar
  • One teaspoon of sesame oil
  • Half a teaspoon of sriracha or chili garlic sauce (optional for heat)

To serve:

  • One iceberg or butter lettuce head, cut into leaves (for wrapping)
  • Chopped peanuts (for garnish, if desired)
  • Slices of chile, lime wedges, and more cilantro are optional garnishes.

Directions:

  • Get the sauce ready: Rice vinegar, lime juice, brown sugar, fish sauce, soy sauce, sesame oil, and chili garlic sauce (if using) should all be combined in a small bowl. Put aside.
  • Prepare the chicken: In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. After adding the ground chicken, simmer it for 6 to 8 minutes, breaking it up with a spoon, until it is browned and cooked through.
  • Add aromatics and vegetables: To the skillet, add the chopped onion, bell pepper, carrot, ginger (if using), and garlic. Cook until the vegetables are slightly tender, 3 to 4 minutes.
  • Mix the chicken mixture with the sauce: Add the chicken and vegetables to the skillet along with the prepared sauce. Cook for a further two to three minutes, or until everything is well cooked and well blended, after stirring to coat everything evenly.
  • Complete the filling: Take off the heat and mix in the chopped green onions, cilantro, and water chestnuts.
  • Put the wraps together: On a dish, arrange the lettuce leaves flat. Fill the middle of each leaf with the chicken mixture using a spoon. If desired, garnish with chopped peanuts, additional cilantro, lime wedges, and slices of chile.
  • Serve: Present the wraps right away and savor them!
