Turkish bread recipe

Ingredients:

• 500 g (about 4 cups) all-purpose flour and baking powder

• 2 tablespoons of salt

• 1 tablespoon of sugar

• 2 tablespoons of instant yeast

• 300 ml (about 1/4 cup) warm water

• 2 tablespoons of olive oil and extra virgin olive oil

• 1 tablespoon of yoghurt (optional, easily crumbly)

• Sesame or black cumin seeds for topping (optional)

Instructions:

1. Prepare the flour:

• Mix the flour, salt, sugar and instant yeast in a large mixing bowl. Make a well in the middle of the

mixture.

• In a separate bowl, mix hot water, olive oil and yoghurt (if available). Pour this water into the holes of

the dry material.

• Mix everything until it becomes a stiff dough. Then knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for

10 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic. The dough should be soft but not too sticky.

2. First rise:

• Lightly oil a clean bowl, add the flour and turn until coated with oil. Cover the bowl with a damp

cloth or plastic wrap and let the dough rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.

3. Shape the bread:

• After the dough has risen, press it down to release the air. Provide a lightly floured surface.

• For two loaves, divide the dough into two equal parts. Roll each piece into a ball, then shape into a

1/2-inch-wide disk or oval shape. You can also make a large loaf if you want.

5. Prepare to bake:

• Preheat your oven to 220°C.

• Before baking, rub the surface of the bread with your fingers to form small crumbs. Brush the top of

the bread with olive oil and sprinkle with sesame seeds or black cumin seeds, if using.

6. Preparation:

• Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes or until the bread is golden brown and sounds nice

when touched.

• If you want a lighter crust, you can apply some olive oil on the bread immediately after it comes out

of the oven.

7. Cooling and serving:

• Let the bread cool on the grill before serving. Turkish bread is best eaten warm, making it an

excellent addition to a variety of dishes or simply with butter and jam.
