VEGAN MISO GARLIC BAKED TOFU

VEGAN MISO GARLIC BAKED TOFU

This recipe for Vegan Miso Garlic Baked Tofu is easy to make and tastes great as a snack or added to salads or rice bowls.

Components:

  1. One block, or fourteen ounces Two tablespoons of white miso paste (or red miso for a more robust taste) and extra-firm tofu
  2. Two tablespoons of tamari or soy sauce (gluten-free)
  3. One tablespoon of olive or sesame oil
  4. One tablespoon of agave or maple syrup
  5. Three minced garlic cloves
  6. One teaspoon of lemon juice or rice vinegar
  7. Half a teaspoon of freshly grated ginger (optional)
  8. Half a teaspoon of optional chili flakes (for a little kick of heat)
  9. Green onions with sesame seeds (optional garnish)

Directions:

1. Press the tofu.

  • To begin, press the tofu to extract any extra moisture. For ten to fifteen minutes, cover the tofu with a heavy object, such as a skillet, and wrap it in paper towels or a clean kitchen towel. When baked, this will help the tofu crisp up.

2. Get the marinade ready:

  • Miso paste, soy sauce, sesame oil, maple syrup, chopped garlic, rice vinegar (or lemon juice), grated ginger (if using), and chili flakes (if using) should all be combined in a basin and whisked until smooth.

3. Cut the tofu into slices:

  • Depending on your choice, cut the tofu into thick strips or cubes, each about 1 inch in size.

4. Let the tofu marinate:

  • Put the tofu chunks in a resealable bag or shallow dish. Cover the tofu with the miso garlic marinade, making sure to coat every piece. For optimal flavor, let it marinade for at least 20 minutes or more (up to overnight in the refrigerator).

5. Put the tofu in the oven:

  • Set the oven temperature to 400°F, or 200°C.
  • A baking sheet can be lightly oiled or lined with parchment paper.
  • To ensure even crisping, arrange the marinated tofu slices in a single layer on the baking pan, avoiding crowding.
  • Bake the tofu for 25 to 30 minutes, turning it halfway through, until the sides are crispy and golden brown.

6. Offer:

  • If preferred, top the tofu with chopped green onions and sesame seeds after taking it out of the oven.
  • Serve the vegan miso garlic tofu with your favorite vegetables, in salads, wraps, or over steaming rice.
