Air Fryer Sesame Chicken

INGREDIENTS:

Sauce Ingredients:

  • 1/4 cup soy sauce.
  • 2 Tablespoons Brown Sugar
  • 1 teaspoon of orange zest.
  • 5 teaspoons of Hoisin sauce.
  • 1/2 teaspoon of ground ginger.
  • 1 teaspoon of minced garlic.
  • 1 tablespoon of cold water.
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 2 teaspoons toasted sesame seeds.

Chicken Ingredients:

  • 1 pound chicken thighs boneless and skinless
  • 1/3 cup cornstarch.
  • 1 teaspoon of olive oil spray.

INSTRUCTIONS:

  • Cut the chicken into cubes and mix in a large bowl with cornstarch to coat evenly.
  • Preheat the air fryer to 390ºF.
  • Place the chicken in the preheated air fryer basket.
  • Air fried the chicken for 24 minutes, or until golden brown, flipping halfway through. After tossing the chicken, spray it with oil.
  • In a small saucepan, combine the sesame chicken sauce ingredients and whisk over medium heat until the sauce reaches a small boil.
  • Once the sugar has completely dissolved, add the cornstarch and water. Allow the sauce to thicken for approximately 5 minutes. Continue to whisk.

Mix in the sesame seeds.

  • Remove from the fire and let it sit for 5 minutes to thicken further.
  • Place the chicken in a medium-sized mixing bowl and cover with the sauce. Toss the chicken to coat each piece with sauce.
  • Serve over rice and garnished with green onion.

NOTES:

  • Flour is an excellent alternative for maize starch because it already contains starch.
