cheddar garlic biscuits

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley (optional, for garnish)


  1. Preparation:
    • Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
    • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it.
  2. Mixing the Dry Ingredients:
    • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, sugar, salt, and garlic powder.
  3. Incorporating the Butter and Cheese:
    • Add the cold, cubed butter to the dry ingredients. Using a pastry cutter or your fingers, work the butter into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.
    • Stir in the shredded cheddar cheese until evenly distributed.
  4. Adding the Liquid:
    • Pour in the milk and stir until the dough just comes together. Be careful not to overmix.
  5. Forming the Biscuits:
    • Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and pat it into a rectangle about 1-inch thick.
    • Using a sharp knife or biscuit cutter, cut the dough into squares or circles, about 2 inches in size.
  6. Baking:
    • Place the biscuits on the prepared baking sheet, leaving a little space between each one.
    • Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until the biscuits are golden brown and cooked through.
  7. Finishing Touches:
    • While the biscuits are baking, mix the melted butter and garlic powder together.
    • As soon as the biscuits come out of the oven, brush the tops with the garlic butter mixture.
    • Garnish with chopped fresh parsley, if desired.
    • Serve warm.
