Stovetop Bottle Cake Recipe

Stovetop Bottle Cake Recipe

Here’s the recipe for a delightful cake using common ingredients and a used bottle

Ingredients:
  • 250 ml water
  • 30 grams sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 50 grams butter
  • 200 grams all-purpose flour
  • 2 eggs
  • Nutella (optional)

Instructions:

Prepare the Batter:

  1. In a saucepan, combine water, sugar, salt, vanilla extract, and butter. Heat the mixture on low heat until the sugar dissolves and the butter melts. Remove from heat and let it cool slightly.

Making the Dough:

  1. Gradually add all-purpose flour to the warm liquid mixture while stirring continuously until a smooth dough forms. Ensure there are no lumps.

Incorporating the Eggs:

  1. Allow the dough to cool for a few minutes (it should be warm but not hot). Crack the eggs into the warm dough, one at a time, and mix well until fully combined. Ensure the dough isn’t too hot to prevent cooking the eggs.

Preparing the Bottle:

  1. Take a clean used bottle, removing any labels and ensuring it’s tall enough to accommodate the cake batter. Grease the inside of the bottle thoroughly.

Filling the Bottle:

  1. Optionally, spoon Nutella into the bottle, swirling it around the sides to create a marbled effect (this step is optional but adds a delightful touch).

Pouring the Batter:

  1. Carefully pour the prepared cake batter into the greased bottle, filling it about halfway.

Cooking Without Oven:

  1. In a large pot or deep pan, place a trivet or heatproof stand at the bottom. Pour in enough water to reach about 1/4 to 1/3 of the way up the side of the bottle.
  2. Carefully place the bottle with the cake batter onto the trivet or stand.

Baking on the Stovetop:

  1. Cover the pot with a lid and cook the cake on low-medium heat for approximately 30-40 minutes. Monitor occasionally to prevent the water from boiling over.

Checking Doneness:

  1. To test if the cake is done, insert a toothpick into the center. If it comes out clean or with a few moist crumbs, the cake is ready.

Cooling and Serving:

  1. Once cooked through, carefully remove the bottle from the pot and allow the cake to cool on a wire rack.
  2. Slice and serve your homemade stovetop bottle cake!
  3. Enjoy this lovely and simple cake made using flour and a used bottle!
